SIDS and Protein Link

Amyloid Precursor Protein is a protein that accumulates in the brain when there has been an injury to the nerve fibers. This protein can be a precursor whether there might be a risk of potential breathing difficulty for the baby. Right now there is an Australian-first led study at the University of Adelaide, they are working on the project where they are trying to figure out the cause of SIDS. The brain tissue of 200 babes who have died from the syndrome will be tested for APP.
This study most likely will not find a cure, or a diagnostic test, but it will help to find the underlying cause of SIDS. This might help us understand why the children die from SIDS, and that is that they had a difficulty breathing. Funded by SIDS and Kids SA, the innovative study is the first large scale collaborative project on SIDS between Australia and Europe, for information visit on APP visit www.sciencedirect.com
